Girl Thing--Boy Thing

The other day I was wondering how the advertisements propagating the "Men would be Men" mantra, are on the rise. How could it be so funny to forget your wife's name!! How come its such a given that you don't want to visit your wife's parents! And at the other end of the spectrum are the cement ads sporting a model coming out of the foamy ocean in a bikini....Give me a break!!
A multitude of advertisements portray a family where the mothers are serving/cooking food, washing clothes, looking after the ill children. Just one advertisement dared to scream back at a husband unable to locate his socks, only just!!
Haven't seen a woman advertise a Motor Cycle, haven't seen a male model promoting the ready made masalas or soaps or detergents.Or a woman trying to finalise on an insurance policy her family needs?!

The thing is we all have this concept of girl thing boy thing completely en-grained in our minds so deep we cant see the world in any other light.I once caught one of my woman friends telling her 5 year old son not to play with dolls as it was a girl thing. Have heard a lot of people trying to tell the girls what is not their thing.

A middle aged housewife in a small town once told me how she ensured her male and female children had the same rules, the same freedom , the same responsibilities to ensure they grew up equal in their abilities only different in their personalities.
I guess this whole fuss about Venus and Mars needs to be de-glamourised. Lets just treat each other as a person with likes and dislikes rather than gender typecasts. Respect and tolerance could start right there and a lot of hypocrisy we live with wouldn't be necessary. No girl thing - Boy thing in my house for  sure!!

DIGNITY

Dignity .....well everyone has a self esteem not that we are all aware of it or let it play a part in our day to day struggle called life.

Dignity means the state or quality of being honourable or worthy of respect. I guess in the scheme of things of Nature or the universe, being an Energiest(will explain in some other post) I don't believe in scheme of things of God, every single atom has a dignity. I guess we are too occupied to think about an atom!!So lets talk about the living things: Plants....oh they are such a waste of Real Estate!! OK Animals: Flies, mosquitoes bees moths....oops wrong living things to choose!! Dogs cats, chihuahuas man's or maybe woman's companion and so the dignity passed on I guess, lucky them.

Moving on what about the dignity of the all important human race the men and the women?
Well that is another story as well!! We were all born equal only some were more equal than others!!!
What with some coloured man looking down upon the other colour while as far as I am concerned every 'colour' has its own dignity and doesn't need to be looked up to or looked down upon on a painter's pallete. What with every socio-economic class looking up and down on the other class and so on and so forth.Oh did I forget to first classify the race as men and women?? The endless struggle for equal dignity.

When I pass on a value to my children I want them to understand the meaning of DIGNITY. But do I understand dignity well myself? While some people's dignity is becoming self importance some others are wearing the cloak of self pity. And then there are a few poor souls born unfortunately in the wrong places in the wrong times who don't have the luxury of having a self, forget the esteem!!

If ever I understood the meaning of this word, I would never ever tread on Territory that reads  "someone else's self esteem"!! Having tread that territory a couple of times in my own life, I regretted it so much, it felt like insulting your own self esteem rather than anyone else's!!
So I guess that is what it means, to be able to respect the time and space in which other people are born and live, to be able to respect who you are and what it is that matters to you, can be called dignity. Self esteem is only just a part of it.
